The Stowaway’s Fall
The second piece of this thesis represents blind pessimism, to serve as a foil to the blindly optimistic theme of the first piece, as well as the first chapter of the story. This chapter is inspired by a time of my own life when I let myself become consumed by a pessimistic attitude, which inhibited me from enjoying all the great things in my life that were all right in front of me.

The second chapter of this story takes place a few years later in Pablo’s life, where he successfully snuck onto the ship and made it the entire trip without getting caught. That is, until the very end of the trip just outside the Martian Colony. Just when he thinks he can get comfortable, he is caught. This results in him being chased out into an escape pod which he’s never driven before, and in his lost hope loses control of the pod causing chaos and destruction. His mind is clouded and the only thing he can feel is despair. The utopian city just out of reach, it appears as though he’ll become lost in the dry, cold desert for the rest of his life.
